New Seminole State College Student Center opens in Sanford

January 19, 2018

Sanford, Fla. – On Friday, January 19th, Seminole State College held a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for its new CPPI-built Student Center, which opened on January 2nd. Members of the CPPI team joined elected officials, community leaders, and Seminole State students and staff for the reception and tour of the building.

The $25 million Student Center is a two story, 77,000-square-foot facility that houses a counseling center, as well as Financial Aid, registration, testing, and administrative offices. Other components include a Student Life office and gathering, gaming, dining, and retail space. The project was completed while the campus was occupied.

The Student Center was designed and built with efficiency in mind. The building meets Green Globes standards, with a lower operating cost through energy and water conservation, and increased recycling. Accounting for its size, glazing, building constructs, occupancy and usage, the Student Center is designed to be approximately 40 percent more energy efficient than a standard comparable building.

Wendy Brandon, CEO of Central Florida Regional Hospital and Chair of the Seminole State Board of Trustees said at the dedication, “The Student Center will serve as a place of support where students can develop and strengthen their sense of community as they strive for academic excellence.”

The Student Center is transformative for Seminole State’s student body, as it provides a central location for them to access the majority of their provided services and resources. Prior to the opening of the Student Center, these services were split among six buildings on campus. Between its one-stop-shop accessibility and its atmosphere as a place for students to gather for studying or socializing, the Student Center is changing how students interact with the college each day.
