New NFRMC Millhopper Freestanding ER Brings Better Patient Care

January 15, 2018

Gainesville, Fla. – On Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 5 p.m., HCA held the grand opening ceremony for the newly completed Millhopper Freestanding Emergency Room. Representatives from HCA, North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC), CPPI, and others joined together to celebrate the new facility. A little over a month later, HCA and NFRMC are seeing improved patient care, with ER wait time hovering around four minutes.

The 11,200 square foot, one-story building features 11 emergency rooms, a full-service lab, a 64-Slice low dose CT scanner, a trauma room, and ultrasound and digital radiographic X-Ray technology. The freestanding ER provides the same level of care as North Florida Regional’s Main Campus Emergency Room.

The freestanding ER concept allows patients to receive the care they need closer to home, and with reduced wait times. The Millhopper freestanding ER is NFRMC’s third emergency department in the Gainesville area, further increasing patient convenience. Those in need of emergency care usually have time-sensitive injuries, meaning that a shorter travel time to the ER, and a shorter wait time once inside it, greatly increases their chances of recovery.

“Because of the overcrowding in emergency rooms all across the country, we found that this will ease those kinds of problems so we can take care of those same type of patients and not have to be in a big emergency room,” Jack Stout, the Director of the Freestanding Emergency Department at North Florida Regional, told WCJB Gainesville. Watch WCJB’s report for the full interview.

The Millhopper Freestanding ER is located at 4388 NW 53rd Ave in Gainesville, and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.
