New LewisGale Freestanding ER adds Roanoke patient care alternative

Gainesville, Fla. – On Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., LewisGale Medical Center held an open house at the hospital’s new freestanding Cave Spring Emergency Room. A couple of months later, HCA and LewisGale Medical Center are seeing improved patient care, with ER wait times hovering around nine minutes.

The nearly 10,000 square foot, one-story building features eight private treatment rooms, CT scanning, on-site laboratory testing, and has direct admission and pediatric capabilities. The freestanding ER provides the same level of care as LewisGale Medical Center’s Emergency Room.

The freestanding ER concept allows patients to receive the care they need closer to home, and with reduced wait times. Cave Spring is LewisGale’s first freestanding ER, meaning it will have a significant impact on reducing ER volume at LewisGale Medical Center, where there has been a 30 percent increase in the past three years. A lower volume of patients leads to shorter wait times, which often has lifesaving results.

LewisGale Medical Center’s Cave Spring ER is located at the corner of Route 419 and Ogen Road, and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
