CPPI Begins Construction on the Culinary Institute of the South

December 21, 2020

Bluffton, S.C. – Charles Perry Partners, Inc. (CPPI) is thrilled to announce that we have begun to construct the Technical College of the Lowcountry’s Culinary Institute of the South.

The Institute, which will accommodate 300 students, will feature a 26,000-square-foot culinary training facility with six academic classrooms, two teaching kitchens, a baking lab, a lecture theater, and a teaching restaurant.

In addition, the Institute will have an interactive museum on campus, called the FOODseum. The facility will feature immersive exhibits, hands-on seminars, and guest lecturers all focused on the preservation and education of Lowcountry agriculture and farming history, making it the first of its kind in the South, according to the Technical College of the Lowcountry’s website.

The Institute is located in Bluffton, South Carolina’s Buckwalter community, a 6,000 acre master-planned community for active family living.

CPPI began work on the project in early September. All underground work has been completed, and foundation slabs were placed in early November. The CPPI team and trade partners recently erected the first three lifts of concrete masonry units (CMU) and coordinated the raising of the auditorium’s steps. The team is currently working on placing embeds, and is preparing to place tie beams and concrete columns.

In the coming weeks, the team will be installing structural steel beams, columns, joists, and decking as they prepare to start erecting the second floor.

The Institute, set to open in the fall of 2021, plans to offer associate degrees and college certificates in Culinary Arts, Hospitality/Tourism Management, and Baking & Pastry. It will also feature continuing education and personal enrichment courses and seminars.
